If there were 3 words that described this Peak District holiday cottage, it would be location, location, location. When we added the time to the nearest shop and pub, we rounded it up as it is so close to the centre of Bakewell. Despite the cottage being close to the centre of the Peak District town of Bakewell, it is on a quiet lane and in the heart of the conservation area.
When we first bought the holiday cottage in Bakewell, people told us that Bakewell was for the tourist during the day and for the locals in the evening. Late in the afternoon the tourists leave Bakewell and make their way home and you are left in a quiet town centre. Due to the conservation area there is a restriction on outside lights in the area. This adds to the tranquil calm that comes at the end of the day. ( we have a torch attached to the keys so you can easily find your way back and unlock the door, plus we suggest you leave a downstairs light on when going out after dark) Once inside the thick cottage walls, the still calm and quiet can be deafening.
