The Living Room
The living room at Bakewell Holiday Cottage is packed with original features from over 200 years ago. The stone fire place now contains a brand new log burner, which was installed in 2020.
Along with the stone fireplace at the holiday cottage, the living room has the original dark beams.
The TV is housed in a cupboard. This cupboard was known as a salt or spice cupboard. Salt was an expensive item and necessary as a way of preserving foods before refridgerators. Being next to the fire was a way of ensuring it was kept dry.
In this stone alcove sits a brand new Smart TV and free stat box, with a sound bar underneath. So it’s the old and new in harmony, with any salt now kept in the kitchen!
The stairs lead off the living room, so once you have the log burner up to temperature, the heat will also drift upstairs to keep the whole cottage warm. Lovely and cosy for a relaxing and peaceful time away to yourselves.
We have also provided a range of books about the area; places to visit; walks for all abilities and local folklore. As well as a range of board games that you can play in front of the fire, if you are feeling competitive! ( some of these may not be available at the moment due to Covid risk assessments and the need to reduce touch points)
Although a perfect evening for us, at the end of a day of the fresh air in Derbyshire is a warm fire, a glass of wine, music in the background and a good old chat!
In 2023 we have upgraded the furniture in the living room. When you return to the holiday cottage after a day out in the Peak District you can relax on the comfy sofa and chair (not shown on this picture)
