The Main Bedroom

The main bedroom is packed with original features.

The beam and brick wall were covered with plaster and wood chip wall paper until recently.  When we purchased the cottage the plaster was falling away from the wall and from the void around the beam.

During 2020, whilst renovating the cottage we need to repair the plaster work and in doing so exposed the beam and the stone wall in the main bedroom.

Our intention was to re-plaster the wall. We had the plaster removed – Oh what a mess this caused!

Once the plaster was removed we were so pleased and excited to discover the beautiful stonework underneath that rather than replastered we incurred a considerable cost to have the wall repaired and repointed with traditional lime mortar and then sealed.

I’m sure you’ll agree that it was well worth the trouble.

In addition in this room there is a cupboard in the wall – we are not quite sure what the original purpose of this cupboard was, but it now houses a safe for your valuables.

There is also a large cupboard over the stairs, which offers you space to hang your clothes. It is also home to an iron and ironing board plus a hand held cleaner. The cupboard will easily accommodate your shoes, clothes and suitcase.

In the corner of the room is a TV with DVD player. This TV is a smart TV, so you can watch catch up TV before drifting off to sleep.

The bed is a king sized bed with white cotton bedlinen. We have been replacing and upgrading the bedlinen and towels and will continue to do this throughout 2021.  The towels provided are bath sheets not small bath towels.

The window offers a view down into Bakewell over the roof tops.
